Audio Problems

Due to the nature of humans, we like to fidget with things, and this is where most of lifes' problems occur.

First thing to do is make sure that your audio levels are going out at proper levels, each room in CMDLN has a meter indicating outgoing audio levels, and almost all rooms have incoming meters. Make sure that when people are talking, at about arms length from the microphone, that the meter is "bouncing" the amber light on and off. Having a red light or two lighting up once in awhile is OK. The problem is when there is a constant red light, this indicates that the audio levels are too high.

The top row of lights indicates the incoming audio levels from the remote sites, and the bottom row indicates the outgoing levels from the microphones of your room.

Attempting to solve a Point to Point connection that has audio problems.

Step 1 Turn all dials pertaining to audio to the setting marked by the technician, typically it is a white mark that must be pointing up.

Does the audio problem go away? No, move to step 2

Step 2 Try to train the room, by pressing "4-wire video" and "Telephone" on the Gentner AVT-700 or 724 echo cancellor remote control or on the device itself. This will create a noise that sounds like static from a TV. This will continue for about 25 seconds. This is teaching the echo cancellor what the acoustics of the room are so that it can adjust itself.

You cannot train a room too much

Does the audio problem go away? No, move to step 3

Step 3 Press "4-wire video" on the remote control for the Gentner echo cancellor, until the light above the button turns off and the light above the "privacy" button turns on. This shuts off the audio that is coming from the remote site. If the audio problem goes away, most likely the problem is at the remote site. If the audio problem continues, call the Network operations center (320-529-1515)

Step4 If you are hearing yourself coming back to you through the speakers, this is called echo. Have ALL remote sites "Re-Train" their rooms.

After all sites have done so, and there is still echo, MUTE each remote site one by one to find out which site has the echo cancellor problem. Have that site re-train again.

If there is still echo, have that site turn down their incoming volume levels from your site.
